The Elementary Education Program prepares elementary educators for 21 st century classrooms and leads to initial licensure in Virginia. Powerful teaching results from the interplay of knowledge, curiosity, and reflection about: (a) children and child development, (b) teaching and learning processes in general academic and specific content areas, and (c) the socio-cultural contexts of schooling. To continue in the program, students in Elementary Education must: Earn a B- or higher in ELM 250; Earn a C or better in all Professional Education coursework; Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher; Have a successful assessment of field experience each semester; Have a successful assessment of dispositions in field and university settings
